Wedding Photography ≈ Stopping Traffic

Ok If you frequent my blog, or drive through downtown Bethlehem on a Saturday night chances are you’ve seen my obsession with jumping out in the middle of the road. Wedding Photography for me are also about having fun being a little outrageous and making a spectacle sometimes. So here are a couple shots of some true traffic stoppers taken outside one of my favorite Lehigh Valley spots the Hotel Bethlehem. I want to thank the bridal party for braving freezing cold, hazardous conditions and Christina and Matt for really being a Kick @$$ Bride and Groom.

Ohh and big thanks to John my second shooter who bravely was dodging traffic with me holding the light, THX John

Providence Wedding Photographer – Mark Andrew - Love the group formal poses. Everyone is having a great time and looks so much more realistic than the stiff formal stuff that so many people like.

Wedding Photography ≈ “Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean it’s over.”

Here in Bethlehem, scratch that, the Lehigh Valley, heck make that all of Pennsylvania and NJ. October and November is huge for weddings. We have the Fall colors and a still pretty moderate climate. But one thing about this time of year is the seasons earlier sunset. When the sun is down around 5:00 being able to work in low light creatively. Twilight and The blue hour is one of my favorite times to shoot because the world becomes your studio. This shot, from one of the weddings that Im going to be posting soon, was a fun one for me  because it not only makes use of this time of day but was quite fearless of the bride and groom.

Nighttime/lowlight shots are great for albums too, because they provide a great ending to the album. So the viewer really feels like they traveled through the day. So if your a photographer reading this don’t stop shooting outside when the sun goes down and if your a bride, plan to dedicate some time during your reception to take a break for the crowd and grab a memorable moment with your new husband.

This wedding photography was shot outside of the Hotel Bethlehem in downtown Bethlehem.

Wedding Photography ≈ “I’m I allowed to like rain on a wedding day?”

This is a quick teaser picker that I wanted to post. *dodging shoes being thrown* I know I have a TON of stuff to post. Please check back in over the next couple weeks to see some of the great weddings the studio has been working on (your event will be up soon I promise).

The rain can be a big let down on the wedding day. Many brides ask “What so we do if it rains on our wedding day?”  Well I always offer my rainy day brides a free bridal session so that she can still get that picture in her dress she had been thinking about for the past 2-40 years. But what I don’t say that often is how unique the rain can make some photography. Like this one from Krista’s wedding in the lehigh valley, Bethlehem PA this past month.

Personally the rain made a ok shot, that you see hundreds of times amazing. I love how the flash froze the drops in the background it creates so much more energy and feeling of a moment in time. So the moral is to embrace your day have the most fun you can and dont stop trying to make the most out of any challenge your day throws at you.

Also Id like to thank my assistant/photographer John for standing out in the pouring rain to hold the flash LOL. John also shot an amazing PartyBooth at the reception that was held at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown PA. I will post some of those images soon, being the day after christmas it had everything a Santa suit, Mistletoe even a choking man getting the Heimlich Maneuver. So excited!

Wedding Photography I Love – “Fathers Dance & Husband’s Moment”

I had a conversation this past weekend with a bride & her mother, as the bride was getting ready for the wedding. We chuckled a bit as we watched the father of the bride outside cleaning up the yard and moving patio furniture around in his jeans like it was just any other day, while they were spending hours on hair, make-up etc worrying about the wedding and what was to come next.

As a father myself (Sienna turned 13 today, happy birthday baby girl) I know first hand how we dad’s have our own ways of dealing with things, often times it’s on our own, so the world can’t see or sometimes, at least for me, it’s easier to process things on my own. In all the hub bub of the wedding day, dads go through a lot and I think it’s important for a photographer or videographer to try to capture it.

At weddings we see our little girls (in our minds) transition to women in the course of hours then ride of into the sunset with another man. I’ve spoken about how I tear up during the Father Daughter Dance. In this picture though I’m struck twice, once as a dad and once as a husband.

Im utterly moved by the sentiment and deep emotion on the father’s face as he dances with his daughter. But I am equally as moved by looking at the groom. Never before have I thought about the other side of it. The groom watching his bride as a little girl in her father’s arms.

For those that don’t know I’ve been married for 10 years and a wedding photographer for 12. When Sheri & I got married, we went to the court house with a hand full of family & our daughter Sienna. It is pictures like these that make me a bit regretful that we didn’t have a formal wedding but lets me look forward to Sienna’s.
