{New stuff for 2009- part 1}

I am super excited about some of the things that the studio is coming out with. I spend a lot of time trying to keep my finger on the pulse of all the great new products that come out and trends that hit the market. Then I test stuff for quality and whether it keeps with my vision for the studio. Often times things don’t make the cut, but every now and then the karma boomerang comes back around. This time the boomerang brought friends.

I am pleased to introduce our new guest signing book.

This guest signing book is to take the place of  what was traditionally 2 items, the signing board and the guest book.The signing board is usually a 11×14 photograph that is mounted in a matt that guests sign when they arrive at the reception and the guestbook typically is a book of varying levels of elaborateness that guests sign.

My problem has always been how useful and valuable these products turned out not to be in the long run. The picture with signatures around it ends up in a low traffic area of the house and the book never gets opened again (I mean how interesting can a book of peoples autographs be). So what do you do? I always hated how some of the great engagement pictures got lost in the shuffle of things since only one picture makes it to the signing board, so in steps the new guest signing book.

first the cover is done in leatherette with a fully printable sleeve. The pictures here don’t do the sleeve justice, it is thick. I have no concerns about wear and tear

Next the binding: the book has fold flat binding which to me was very important since it is tough to sign something that keeps bubbling up on you like how normal books do.

Page thickness was also important since people will be signing them. The last thing you want is the pen pressure poking through or bleeding into the page opposite the one being signed. Page texture was equally important as well since a good surface is needed for good signatures not to slick and not to rough

And lastly the design had to feel in sync with the studios signature look but to still leave room for the guests to sign. So here are some examples of a typical design. I hope you like it half as much as I do, I keep walking over to where I have it in the meeting room an flipping through it. I will be having some contests on the blog coming up and I will be doing a give-a-way for a free one at the Stabler Arena Bridal show. Also stay tuned for the other new things coming out for 2009 my fingers are trembling just thinking about it

OH AND EVEN IF YOU DIDN’T HIRE US TO BE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER (boo, hisss – only joking) and you like the book give me a call I can still do a “Shoot Us” session with the book for you.

June Photo of the Month

This month I am cheating. HA HA HA! This image is a 2 page spread for an album I’m currently working on. By themselves they are compelling images but together they tell a story. This Diptych is what my ambition for the studios direction is all about, not the dark moodiness, even though I love dark and moody,  but it’s having the sum be greater than it’s parts.

This is much like the wedding itself, to quote the mastercard commercial: Dress $600, Food $30 per plate, Centerpieces $50, The perfect wedding priceless. Any element (or picture) on its own can be amazing but to have a synergy between all the elements, to get them working together for the whole that is priceless.
Check out the portfolio section of www.mcnettimages.com to see the rest of the album. I will be posting it as it develops.

Started Production of Ben and Billies Coffee Book Album

I’ve started production of Ben and Billie’s Coffee Table Book. Here is a shot of the cover. I’m really excited about how it is coming together,  can’t wait to see it printed.

For those paying attention the round mirror is actually the mirror from where the tuxedos were rented.
