OK heres the deal. Every year the local paper the Morning Call has what they call their “readers choice awards” ! Winners are chosen based on the number of votes they receive from members of the community (achhhmm you)

“Best” winners will receive a Readers’ Choice plaque to display in their place of business. (Whoooo Hoooo and Ive been fighting plaque with mouth wash for years who knew)

In reality its a little pat on the back, no biggy, for most businesses. I however love pats on the back (lmao). Most of what I do relates to connecting to people, I try to do it in my photography and through this blog. Your vote would kinda be like saying you like what Im doing here and want me to keep it up. Every vote counts, even if I dont win it means a lot that you took the time to do it.

So take to the streets, call your friends, twitter, facebook etc. please pass it along to vote for me.

Heres what you have to do:

Im slowly becoming a facebook fiend.
It allows me to interact with past and future brides like never before. I get to share more work (sometimes before I even post the wedding.) Prospective customers can see what past customers say about me and the work that I do. And I get to share who I am, which can be invaluable in deciding who to trust with your wedding coverage.

Oh and some of my other friends are some of the most talented wedding vendors (DJs, Videographers, Bakers, florists etc) in the area so it can make planning a wedding easy.

So now the part where I pay you to be my friend. I will have a random drawing from the names in my Facebook friends list on the 30th of October 2009. If you are a family member or one of my bum friends that I grew up with I will draw again. The winner will get a $500 credit towards any service or product that Michael McNett Photography offers.

Not me….. wonk wonk waaaaaa

But 2nd place in the Wedding Channel’s Bridal blog awards ‘aint to shabby. And if Im gonna lose, coming in second to Elizabeth Messina (Top 25 Trendsetter of 2008 by Modern Bride and Top Ten wedding photographer in the world by American Photo 2008) is kinda an honor. (If you are unfamiliar with Elizabeth’s work go check her out)

Seriously though from the absolute bottom of of my heart thank you, all who voted, I was astounded and honored that everyone took time out of their day (some people hours out of their day) to vote.

Ok it is competition time. Some of you visit the blog, or read it on a regular basis. Some of you are new and reading it for the first time. Im asking everyone pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top to nominate my blog for weddingchannel.com’s blog competition

First Contest of 2009

Drum roll, badadabadabadabada

The first two weeks of January I spent attending some local bridal shows. Being a people photographer, one of the things I love to do when I’m in a setting like a bridal show is to engage in some “people” watching. I found that some of the most fascinating pedestrians walking by were, bar none, the guys. You had two types of guys: those who were loving it and having a blast, asking questions and smiling and then guys who looked like they were being lead by an invisible leash as they stared aimlessly from side to side.

Before I get into this contest, I want to share with you a painful, but funny, memory at which you can all laugh, but you will quickly see how all of this relates.

There are some guys who are romantic. It may be their eye contact, their words, their actions; everything about them makes women weak in the knees. There are those guys, and then there is me. I would be one of the walking zombies at the bridal show, zoned out and nodding my head yes dear. More often than not, this gets interpreted as a lack of love, which could not be farther from the truth. So I will share with you the FIRST TIME I proposed (that’s right, there was more than one and you will soon find out why) to my lovely wife of eleven years, Sheri.

Here is how I proposed (the first time).

The first time I proposed I thought I was clever and cute; she did not! But now here we are eleven years later going strong, so that is proof that the best of things in life can have the not so best beginnings! Now you can use your fiancée’s romantically challenged behavior to your advantage.

Giving Is Awesome And It Is Not Too Late!

A little something special for someone special…

In partnership with Giving is Awesome and 437 photographers (as of today) Im trying to do a little extra this year. So far we are up to almost $500,000 in donations.

Here is how you can help -

Do you know someone. Do you know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. Do you know someone who will soon be over seas serving. Maybe someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. CONTEST #2- Who wants to be in Style Magazine!!!

Here is a unique opportunity for someone who is a soon to be bride, already been a bride or never was a bride. I am offering a free trash the dress portrait session to the winner and I will supply the dress. I will also feature the winner in the style magazine issue that follows the shoot, and give you a 11×14 fine art print from the session.

Trash the dress refers to photographs that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is completely out of place. It is generally shot in the style of glossy beauty and glamour photography. The idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted. A model often wears a ball gown, prom dress or wedding dress, and may effectively ruin the dress in the process by getting it wet, dirty or in extreme circumstances tearing or destroying the garment.

It may also be done as an additional shoot after the wedding, almost as a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will not be used again. It is seen as an alternative to storing the dress away, never to be seen again.
