The original posting of the contest was here

Use your fiancée’s romantically challenged behavior to your advantage.

I want to know the story of your engagement, but I don’t want the storybook engagement. I want the one where he got down on his knee and fell or split his pants or dropped the ring. Life is seldom perfect, but we should celebrate it.

(Heck you want to get  loco, and you are thinking about proposing on V-Day email me and I will shoot it like the camera ninja I am for free.)

Here’s what you win:
- (1) ”Shoot Us”  Photo Session: The winning couple and I pick a local spot and have a fun photo shoot to celebrate your love.
- You receive a disc of all the pictures from the “Shoot Us”.
- A romantic dinner will be provided, on me, to the BrewWorks.

For those that don’t know about the fabulousness that is the BrewWorks check ‘em out

Rules:
-You must be able to travel within a 25 mile radius of Bethlehem.
-Your story must be real.
- You must give me permission to post your story with  a few pictures from this site.- All stories must be emailed to me before February 21, 2009 , so you still have Valentine’s Day to pop the question.
-The stories must be email to me with name and contact information.

Good luck,

-Mike

First Contest of 2009

Drum roll, badadabadabadabada

The first  two  weeks of January I spent attending some local bridal shows. Being a people photographer, one of the things I love to do when I’m in a setting like a bridal show is to engage in some “people” watching. I found that some of the most fascinating pedestrians walking by were, bar none, the guys. You had two types of guys: those who were loving it and having a blast, asking questions and smiling and then guys who looked like they were being lead by an invisible leash as they stared aimlessly from side to side.

Before I get into this contest, I want to share with you a painful, but funny, memory at which you can all laugh, but you will quickly see how all of this relates.

There are some guys who are romantic. It may be their eye contact, their words, their actions; everything about them makes women weak in the knees. There are those guys, and then there is me. I would be one of the walking zombies at the bridal show, zoned out and nodding my head yes dear. More often than not, this gets interpreted as a lack of love, which could not be farther from the truth. So I will share with you the FIRST TIME I proposed (that’s right, there was more than one and you will soon find out why) to my lovely wife of eleven years, Sheri.

Here is how I proposed (the first time).

marry-me

The first time I proposed I thought I was clever and cute;  she did not!  But now here we are eleven  years later going strong, so that is proof that the best of things in life  can have the not so best beginnings! Now you can use your fiancée’s romantically challenged behavior to your advantage.

I want to know the story of your engagement, but I don’t want the storybook engagement. I want the one where he got down on his knee and fell or split his pants or dropped the ring. Life is seldom perfect, but we should celebrate it.

Giving Is Awesome And It Is Not Too Late!

A little something special for someone special…

In partnership with Giving is Awesome and 437 photographers (as of today) Im trying to do a little extra this year. So far we are up to almost $500,000 in donations.

Here is how you can help -

Do you know someone. Do you know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. Do you know someone who will soon be over seas serving. Maybe someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. You have to, I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $500 worth, to be exact. The winner will receive a photo session along with all the digital files to fully decorate their home and be able to share with friends and family AND a printed 11×14 of one of the images. It’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a FREE session worth $150.00. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:
* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
* You can only win one Giving is Awesome Contest in your area, that way more giving takes place, and more people benifit.
* The nominee must reside in the Bethlehem/Lehigh Valley area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.
* You must e-mail me the full story : mike@mcnettimages.com
The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!
Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With much love,

Mike McNett

CONTEST #2- Who wants to be in Style Magazine!!!

Here is a unique opportunity for someone who is a soon to be bride, already been a bride or never was a bride. I am offering a free trash the dress portrait session to the winner and I will supply the dress. I will also feature the winner in the style magazine issue that follows the shoot, and give you a 11×14 fine art print from the session.
Trash the dress refers to photographs that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is completely out of place. It is generally shot in the style of glossy beauty and glamour photography. The idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted. A model often wears a ball gown, prom dress or wedding dress, and may effectively ruin the dress in the process by getting it wet, dirty or in extreme circumstances tearing or destroying the garment.

It may also be done as an additional shoot after the wedding, almost as a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will not be used again. It is seen as an alternative to storing the dress away, never to be seen again.
Here is how you win. Email me your idea or location that you would like to shoot in, your dimensions so I can secure a dress and the person with the most intriguing idea will be the winner. The sky is the limit let the creativity flow.
